Celebrating Liberation Through Economic Empowerment
Juneteenth is more than a day of remembrance, it is a call to action. As we honor the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, Equitable Development Action (EDACT) invites you to join us in reflecting on the true meaning of liberation: not just freedom from bondage, but the power to build, grow, and thrive.
This year, EDACT is marking Juneteenth with a virtual event centered on the theme:
“Celebrating Liberation Through Economic Empowerment.”
We believe that economic justice is the foundation for lasting liberation. That’s why we focus our work on building capacity within underserved communities, supporting small businesses, nonprofits, and individuals to overcome systemic barriers and create generational wealth.
Why Economic Empowerment Matters on Juneteenth
Juneteenth commemorates the day, June 19, 1865 when enslaved people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. But while legal slavery ended, economic exclusion continued.
Redlining, discrimination in education and employment, predatory lending, and lack of access to capital have prevented many Black and BIPOC communities from building wealth across generations. True liberation means more than being free, it means having the resources, skills, and opportunities to determine your future.
At EDACT, we honor Juneteenth by investing in that future. Our programs, ranging from financial literacy and nonprofit incubation to business mentorship and technical assistance, are designed to turn potential into progress.
