About Program

Program Objective

The EDA Economic Empowerment Program aims to foster economic inclusion and reduce wealth disparities in underserved BIPOC communities in Minnesota through advocacy, capacity development, and tailored solutions.

Program Components

Job Training and Placement Services:

  • Collaborate with local employers, community colleges, and vocational training centers to provide comprehensive job training programs.
  • Offer job placement services and support for BIPOC community members seeking employment.
  • Provide career counseling and mentorship opportunities to enhance career progression.

Financial Literacy Workshops:

  • Conduct regular financial literacy workshops and seminars in partnership with financial institutions and experts.
  • Cover essential topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, credit management, and wealth-building strategies.
  • Provide one-on-one financial coaching and assistance.

Advocacy and Policy Engagement:

  • Identify and advocate for policies that promote equitable access to resources and economic opportunities.
  • Collaborate with policymakers, non-profits, and community organizations to address systemic barriers.
  • Engage in grassroots advocacy efforts to raise awareness of economic disparities.

Community Engagement and Ownership:

  • Encourage active community participation in economic development and decision-making processes.
  • Promote leadership development through community-driven initiatives.
  • Create platforms for intergenerational dialogue and mentorship to transfer financial knowledge and skills.

Research and Data Analysis:

  • Conduct in-depth research on the unique challenges faced by BIPOC communities in building and transferring wealth.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions and research organizations to gather data and inform evidence-based advocacy.
  • Use research findings to develop targeted solutions.

Capacity Development for Nonprofits and Businesses:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to build capacity in underserved communities, including nonprofit organizations and BIPOC-owned businesses.
  • Offer training, resources, and technical assistance to community resource centers, real estate development initiatives, workforce development programs, and economic development centers.
